TAVI
TAVI's design is inspired by the heritage of North Thailand, where coffee beans are cultivated and ethically sourced. Studio Nomatter designed the peaceful environment in an earthy colour scheme of terracotta to bring warmth into the establishment of 100 square metres, completing the area in local materials and craftwork to give it a homely atmosphere.
To pay tribute to the fascinating process of speciality coffee production and its origin, Studio Nomatter employed a mix of concrete, wooden details, and clay tiles often associated with the Northern Thai interiors to complete the space. Other elements include bar-stool seating, wooden furnishing, and light grey plaster finishing.
The space is divided into a barista bar, a dining & workshop area and an exhibition space. Upon entering, customers are greeted by a barista bar with a low-level counter designed to accommodate equipment and coffee machines. Set against a warm-hued wooden display shelf, the Terracotta-tiled serving counter was positioned in the centre to create a unified space, ensuring personal interactions between the barista and customers. The identical tiles can be seen on the facade, where customers are welcome to enjoy their drinks and take a picture.
Defined explicitly as a hub rather than an independent café, TAVI not only is a destination for coffee fanatics but also serves as a purveyor of artisan goods. The cafe was set up with the aim to bring together entrepreneurs, farmers, and supporters of the local craft movement who like to exchange ideas through group discussions.
